How To Request Public Data

You can ask to look at data at our offices or ask for copies of public data that we keep.

To request public data, please use the Data Request Form or make a written request by mail, fax or email.

If you do not use the data request form, send your request to the agency Data Practices Compliance Official, contact information below. Your request should:

  • Say that you are making a request for public data under the Government Data Practices Act .
  • Include whether you would like to inspect the data, have copies of the data, or both.
  • Provide a clear description of the data you would like to inspect or have copied.

You are not required to identify yourself or explain the reason for your data request. However, you may need to provide us with some personal information for practical reasons . If we do not understand your request and have no way to contact you, we cannot respond to your request.

How it Works

  • Select the tab for the type of data that youre looking for. Under each tab, you can filter results by metropolitan area, property type, month-over-month change, year-over-year change, and the time period. Each visualization will change with your selections.
  • After making your selections, click on the visualization and then hit the download button on the bottom right corner to get the data shown.
  • Alternatively, you can select the Download tab and download all of the data that we have available.

Your Right To See Public Data

The Government Data Practices Act presumes that all government data are public unless a state or federal law says the data are not public. Government data means all recorded information a government entity has, including paper, email, flash drives, CDs, DVDs, photographs, etc.

The law also says that Minnesota Housing must keep all government data in a way that makes it easy for you to access public data. You have the right to look at , free of charge, all public data that we keep. You also have the right to get copies of public data. The Government Data Practices Act allows us to charge for copies. You have the right to look at data, free of charge, before deciding to request copies.

Realtors Affordability Distribution Curve And Score

The REALTORS® Affordability Distribution Curve and Score measures housing affordability at different income percentiles for all active inventory on the market. For each state, REALTORS® Affordability Distribution Curve shows how many houses are affordable to households ranked by income while REALTORS® Affordability Distribution Score is the measure which is intended to represent affordability for all different income percentiles in a single measure.

Sales Count And Price Cuts

  • The Sales Count Nowcast is the estimated number of unique properties that sold during the month after accounting for the latency between when sales occur and when they are reported. Available only for the raw cut of all homes.
  • The number of unique properties with a list price at the end of the month thats less than the list price at the beginning of the month, divided by the number of unique properties with an active listing at some point during the month.
  • Price Cuts: The mean and median price cut for listings in a given region during a given time period, expressed as both dollars and as a percentage of list price.
  • Note: Weekly means you can see the metrics value on a weekly cadence. The CSVs are updated monthly.

Note: We make frequent changes to the download paths for CSVs and ask that users who have standard code to ingest our data consider switching to the Econ Data API to avoid that code being affected by these changes.

DEFINITIONS OF HOME TYPES

  • All Homes: Zillow defines all homes as single-family, condominium and co-operative homes with a county record. Unless specified, all series cover this segment of the housing stock.
  • Condo/Co-op: Condominium and co-operative homes.
  • Multifamily 2+ units: Units in buildings with 5 or more housing units, that are not condominiums or co-ops.
  • Duplex/Triplex: Housing units in buildings with 2 or 3 housing units.

Summary data are statistical records or reports created by removing identifying information about individuals from entirely private or confidential data.

Metropolitan Median Home Prices And Affordability

NAR releases statistics on metropolitan area housing affordability and metropolitan area median home prices each quarter. Two separate price reports reflect sales prices of existing single-family homes and condominium and cooperative homes by metropolitan statistical area . A quarterly qualifying income report shows the income that is needed to qualify to purchase the median priced existing single-family home in each metro area given a variety of downpayment assumptions. County Median Home Prices And Monthly Mortgage Payment

Zillow Rent Forecast

To calculate median home values for 3,119 counties and county-equivalents in the United States, NAR applied the House Price Index growth from FHFA to the latest housing data from the American Community Survey . Home values represent the value of all homes instead of home sales.

Monthly mortgage payments by county are based on the following mortgage rates: 3.0%, 3.5%, and 4.0%.

How We Will Respond To Your Public Data Request

Upon receiving your request, we will review it. We may ask you to clarify what data you are requesting.

  • If we do not have the data, we will notify you as soon as reasonably possible.
  • If we have the data, but we are not allowed to give it to you, we will tell you as soon as reasonably possible and identify the law that prevents us from providing the data.
  • If we have the data, and the data are public, we will respond to your request appropriately and promptly, within a reasonable amount of time by doing one of the following:
  • Arrange a date, time, and place for you to inspect the data at our offices or
  • You may choose to pick up your copies, or we will mail or email them to you. We will provide electronic copies upon request, if we keep the data in that format and we can reasonably make a copy.
  • Response time may be impacted by the size and/or complexity of your request, and also by the number of requests you make in a given period of time.

Following our response, if you do not make arrangements within 10 business days to inspect the data or pay applicable costs, we will conclude that you no longer want the data and will consider your request closed.

If you do not understand some of the data , please tell the person who provided the data to you. We will give you an explanation if you ask.

We are also not required to respond to questions that are not about your data requests, or requests for government data.

    Realtor.com Foreclosures. Similarly, Realtor.com, also used by new-home seekers or sellers, can help you find foreclosures. You can focus your search using a zip code and/or city.
