Before Bankruptcy, When Should You Stop Using Your Credit Cards?
  • Check bit installation. Make sure that the bit is properly installed in the collet.
  • Check for bit damage. Examine the bit and replace it if the bit is dull or damaged.
  • The bit will bind up if the cut is too deep for one pass. If you’re attempting a deep cut and the bit binds up, make the cut in two or more passes instead of just one pass.
  • Check the speed. Adjust the speed if it’s too slow for the cut that you’re attempting.
  • Adjust feed rate. Feed the work piece too fast can cause binding. Slow down the feed rate if necessary.

Different Types Of Bankruptcy

There are two types of bankruptcy cases for individuals. The majority of individual debtors file Chapter 7. This can also be called as atraighta bankruptcy or aliquidation.a Secure creditors may have items they financed transferred to them, unless the debtor agrees to reaffirm the debt with the court before obtaining a discharge. Chapter 13 is for those with regular incomes and less than the legal limit.

Bankruptcy can be a very serious decision. An attorney is required if you decide to file Chapter 7 bankruptcy or Chapter 13. Make sure you find an experienced attorney for the type of bankruptcy case that you are planning to file. This overview of Chapter 7 & Chapter 13 will help you get an idea of the process.

Chapter 13 Bankruptcy For Credit Card Debt

Chapter 13 bankruptcy is called reorganization and unsecured debt, like credit cards, is given a very low priority in the reorganization.

When you file for Chapter 13 bankruptcy, you submit a plan to the bankruptcy trustee that says you will pay most, if not all, of what you owe in three to five years. The next step is to prioritize the debts, starting at the top with secured debts , and priority debts .

Unsecured debt, like credit cards is at the bottom of the priority list.

The Chapter 13 filer then looks at his current and future income and determines how much will go to repay debts in a 3-5 year period. Very little, if any, is set aside for credit card debt.

If the bankruptcy trustee agrees with the plan, and the consumer makes the required payments, all debts are discharged, including credit card debt, when the final payment is made.

Because Chapter 13 bankruptcy does not put much emphasis on repaying unsecured debt, its likely most, or all of what you owe on credit cards will disappear with a successful discharge.

Getting Approved For New Credit Cards After Bankruptcy

Is it possible to get approved for a credit card after a bankruptcy filing? Absolutely, according to Marshall Slayton, Managing Attorney and Owner of Slayton Law, PLC of Charlottesville, VA.

Contrary to popular belief, after bankruptcy, many of my clients are inundated with credit card offers, Slayton says.

Technically, you can start applying for credit cards as soon as your bankruptcy is discharged.

That usually takes around three months from the filing date for Chapter 7 bankruptcies. Chapter 13 bankruptcies take longer because they involve repayment plans that can take anywhere from three to five years to complete.

Still, just because you can get approved for bankruptcy-friendly credit cards quickly doesnt mean you should accept any credit offer you receive from a card issuer.

The vast majority of the offers are terrible deals with predatory interest rates, Slayton says. I counsel my clients to throw them in the trash.

If youre not getting pre-approved offers or getting turned down from a credit card company after bankruptcy, check your credit report.

Don Petersen, a consumer lawyer with the Law Office of Donald E. Petersen in Orlando, FL, says your ability to get credit after bankruptcy depends on a lot of factors, including:

1 – Your credit score before the bankruptcy.

2 – Whether you filed a Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 bankruptcy.

Petersen says:

3 – Whether you reaffirmed secured debt.

Take Care Of The Four Walls First

When youre trying to crawl out of debt and avoid bankruptcy at all costs, the first thing to do is make sure youre taking care of what we call the Four Walls: food, utilities, shelter and transportation. If youre at rock bottom, dont pay anyone else until these basics are covered. Keep the family fed, the lights on, the rent or mortgage paid, and the gas tank full enough to get you to work.

Skil’s 1830 Combination Router Features A 2

Skils new line of routers, the 1800 series, offers pro features with an affordable price. There are three variations: the 1817 fixed base , the 1827 plunge base , and the 1830 combo kit. Because the combo kit offers the most versatility for a router, I took that one for a spin around my shop.

The 1830 features a 2-14 hp, variablespeed motor with a soft-start feature. The on-off switch can be accessed from the top of the motor or through the base with your thumb. Unfortunately, the thumb switch is not easy to slide up and down, because it doesnt protrude from the base.

The motors LED light turns on when the router is plugged in. It not only illuminates the work area but also acts as an alert that the router is powered up, prior to changing or adjusting bits.

The router has a 12-in. collet and a 14-in. adapter sleeve. Bit changes are easily done with one wrench and a spindle lock lever. However, the spindle lever has to be retracted whenever you remove and install the motor in the basesa minor inconvenience.

Both plunge and fixed bases have a micro-adjust mechanism to fine-tune the bit height, and all scales are pretty easy to read. The plunge mechanism held its height when locked and released easily.

One wrench is enough. With a leveractivated spindle lock and wideopen access to the collet, bit changes are a breeze.

Make Your Payments On Time Every Time

Can I Keep Using A Credit Card Before Filing Bankruptcy?

Making timely payments to creditors and lenders is one of the essential factors in calculating your credit score, accounting for 35% of your FICO Score. Previous errors, such as missing or late payments, are difficult to reverse.

  • Pay your bills on time: even a few days of late payments or collections may adversely affect your FICO Scores. Set up payment reminders using your banks internet portal if it offers one. To have payments debited from your bank account, regularly enroll in automatic payments with your credit card and loan providers.
  • If youve fallen behind on payments, make up the difference and stay current: bad credit wont persist forever. The longer you pay your bills on time after being late, the better your FICO score will be. The impact of earlier credit difficulties on your FICO Scores diminishes as time passes and new good payment habits reflect on your credit report.
  • Even if you pay off a collection account, it will continue to appear on your credit report for another seven years.
  • Contact your creditors or seek advice from a qualified credit counselor if youre having trouble making ends meet: this wont immediately boost your credit score, but if you can start managing your credit and paying on time, your score should rise with time. If you seek assistance from a credit counseling program, your FICO score will not be impacted.

Skil Router Bits What’s Wrong With Them

I just bought a kit of 30 Skil router bits for $36. Presumably at that price they can’t be very good, but does anyone actually know what’s wrong with them? Do they burn rather than cut? Does the carbide fall off?

  • Matt Day said:11-29-2018 3:22 PM

Quality of materials, sharpness and how quickly it dulls, etc.

  • Prashun Patel said:11-29-2018 3:38 PM

You will find exceptions to this general rule: But mostly the cheaper bits burn more easily and dont cut as cleanly. For me, this is more critical the bigger the bit. So I have no probs buying a cheap 1/8 roundover bit. As for sets, I have found that I use a few bits a lot, and others never. Ymmv, but I have slowly been retiring my large cheap set for a few whitesides.

  • michael langman said:11-29-2018 3:42 PM

Wade, I have bought some inexpensive router bits but not in sets. I found the shanks to sometimes be a little undersize, so a possibility the could slip in the collet. I have found sizes in cutting diameter to be undersize, but a lot of times that doesn’t matter. The router bits with 1/4″ shanks I got were not hardened, so they vibrated under heavy cuts and some broke sometimes. The concentricity between the shankand cutter may not be as accurate as more expensive bits. A lot of the cheaper bits can be ok, luck of the draw.

I am surprised at that cost they are carbide.

  • Exceptions For Eliminating Debt With Chapter 7 Bankruptcy

While there are plenty of reasons to eliminate credit card debt through Chapter 7 bankruptcy, there are two major reasons you would not have the debt successfully discharged:

    • You incurred debt on your credit card as the result of fraud
    • You used the credit card to purchase property that the creditor has a security interest in, such as a high-end appliance or piece of jewelry.

The issue of fraud could be the result of you making false statements that allowed you to get the credit card in the first place. For example, over-stating your income on your application or possibly doctoring or counterfeiting a credit card to make purchases.

It also is considered fraud when you use the credit card to make luxury purchases of more than $725 or took a cash advance of more than $1,000 within 70 days of filing bankruptcy. In other words: If you know youre going to file bankruptcy, dont go running up tabs on your credit card.

The second reason is rare, but could result in purchases you made, being repossessed. If creditors see that you bought a top-of-the-line appliance or living room furniture or gold and diamond jewelry, that could be considered secured debt. They could call it collateral and ask for it.

The debts for these purchases can be wiped out, but you wont be permitted to keep the property.

    Choosing The Right Card

Most experts recommend that you only choose a cash back reward card with an annual fee if the rewards will outweigh the cost of the fee itself. This can get a little tricky, depending on the card being reviewed.

Some only allow for a limited amount of cash back to be earned, meaning that theyll never outweigh the annual fee. Be careful when choosing a card, and read through everything about it before agreeing to the terms and conditions.
